The Oath: The Series That Survived Hurricane María

On February 24, The Sifre Group was invited to attend a special screening of “The Oath”, a new series filmed and produced in Puerto Rico for Sony Pictures’ streaming platform, Crackle. The series’ first season premiered on March 8 and stars Australian actor, Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Sean Bean, Katrina Law, and many other talented actors. Inspired by the true life experiences of its creator and ex-cop Joe Halpin, the series follows a gang made up of cops, and explores the corrupt and secret societies they travel in.

You might remember the series making the press before when, against all odds, it continued to film in Puerto Rico just weeks after hurricane María. The production team was very supportive of our local crew and many of the stars of the show went to social media to raise awareness of our situation. The Oath provided us with one of the first positive news to surface in the media about Puerto Rico post-María and told the world we continue to do business in spite of hardship.

Since we have been working with the Crackle team on various projects we have gotten to see first hand how much they care about our Island and specifically, our audiovisual industry. The Special Screening, filled with local and visiting cast and crew, friends and associates of the series, as well as prominent government figures, is proof of the enormous and significant impact this enterprise has had on our industry these past few years.

Among the guests at the Screening were the Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico, Manuel Laboy; Film Commissioner, Pedro Rua Jovet; and the Secretary of State, Luis Rivera Marín. All three delivered messages that highlighted the importance of the film and audiovisual industry in the Island and praised the quality of our talented local crews. Laboy estimated that between January 2017 and June 2018 the film industry will have produced more than 12,000 jobs and will have generated about $225 million for the local economy. We are thrilled to have been a part of The Oath and look forward to working with Crackle on future projects.
